Featuring Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers
Thursday, November 9 • 7:30pm
$20 GA
“What is it about Betty Boop that can still haunt
your dreams long after her flesh-and-blood rivals fade away?”—Chicago
Tribune
"Boop-oop-a-doop!" Max Fleischer’s classic ’toon
heroine Betty Boop was not only the sultriest animated star of
the ’30s—she was a jazz singer! This fun-filled multimedia
show includes classic Boop films featuring co-stars like Louis
Armstrong, Cab Calloway, and other early jazz legends, along
with swingin’ sounds of Betty’s heyday performed
in concert by real-life chanteuse Lavay Smith and
her much-loved band of Bay Area swing and jump-blues all-stars,
the Red Hot Skillet Lickers. Special guest Dave Radlauer,
host of the award-winning “Jazz
Rhythm” radio series, will provide a healthy splash of
context and insight as the evening's emcee.
