In addition to presenting educational programs for Bay Area families, SFJAZZ also hosts programs designed to expand the jazz audience and deepen jazz lovers' understanding of this vibrant art form.

In presentations hosted by distinguished jazz professionals, SFJAZZ screens rare and important archival footage and convenes jazz community discussions focused on programmatic and timely themes. Bringing together renowned artists, scholars, critics and industry executives, dialogue topics have included "Jazz and Race" and "Women and Jazz."

In honor of Halloween, a night of devilish delights: Amsterdam’s irreverent and unpredictable sax master Breuker leads his 30-years-strong Kollektief in a live set of music accompanying one of the classics of silent film: F.W. Murnau’s 1926 masterpiece Faust.

Betty Boop: Tunes & Toons feat. Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers
This fun-filled multimedia show included classic Boop films along with swingin’ sounds of Betty’s heyday performed in concert by real-life chanteuse Lavay Smith as part of the 24th San Francisco Jazz Festival.
